Level Up: Gamified Musicianship
- Tuesday, 29 September
- 3:45 pm
This practical, hands-on workshop explores engaging ways to teach aural and theory skills through gamified learning grounded in Kodály principles. Designed for lower-secondary students, the session demonstrates how singing, movement, and structured play can be used to develop pitch accuracy, rhythmic security, and musical understanding, while also building confidence and promoting inclusion.
The workshop reframes aural and theoretical learning as an active and enjoyable process rather than a passive or abstract one. Participants will take part in a range of classroom-ready games and activities that integrate solfa, rhythm syllables, inner hearing, and movement. These approaches provide immediate feedback, encourage deep musical engagement, and are easily adapted for mixed-ability classrooms without compromising musical rigour.
By participating in the activities as learners, attendees will gain insight into how gamified strategies support kinaesthetic learning, sustain motivation, and encourage risk-taking within a supportive environment. The session also addresses ways to align these activities with curriculum requirements while remaining true to the Kodály emphasis on singing as the foundation of musicianship.
