Kodály Australia Conference 2024

In 2024 the Kodály Australia Conference: New Voices in Harmony – Naarm/Melbourne was held from 23 – 26 September at Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School, in Melbourne, VIC.

The conference theme New Voices in Harmony sought to embrace diverse views, traditions and identities, to show how modern Kodály-inspired teaching can reflect the society we live in. The 2024 conference specifically sought to promote historically under-represented voices and critical thinking and incorporate them into a strong Kodály-based pedagogical framework.

Keynote Speakers for 2024 were:

Dr Tracey Wong

Presenters were called to include at least one of the following:

Repertoire by First Nations artists
Repertoire by Female and Gender Diverse composers
Repertoire by Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Composers
Repertoire from non-Western cultures (which must be presented with cultural context)
Opportunities to critically discuss and reflect on any of the following:
- cultural diversity,
- neurodiversity,
- socio-economic diversity,
- student voice and agency,
- questioning the status quo
